Donald "Bud" Eugene McNew

Donald "Bud" Eugene McNew, 88, of Granite City, formerly of Carterville, died Wednesday, August 30, 2017, at Meridian Village Care Center in Glen Carbon. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Sunday, September 3, 2017, at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville, with the Rev. Brad Harlow officiating. Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m., Saturday, September 2, 2017, at the funeral home. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 5, 2017, in Hillcrest Cemetery in Carterville. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association. Donald was born on February 12, 1929, in Carterville, to Arthur and Emma (Griffith) McNew. He married Inez Marie Collins on November 11, 1950, in Piggott, Arkansas. She preceded him in death on July 25, 2008. He is survived by his son, Paul McNew, of Apple Valley, Utah; and many wonderful nieces and nephews. Donald was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two sisters, Lucille Barwick and Rosalee Warren; and five brothers, Vernell, James, Tom, Ray, and Paul McNew. He honorably served our Country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict where he was awarded the Purple Heart. Donald retired after 38 years of service as the warehouse man for the Army Depot in Granite City. He enjoyed going to fish fry's, history and was a Civil War enthusiast. Donald's family and friends were the most important things in his life and he was always willing to lend a helping hand.
