Wilma Porter, 100, of Sullivan and formerly of Carterville and Marion, passed away Tuesday, January 12, 2021, at Mason Point in Sullivan.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 20, 2021, at Hillcrest Cemetery in Carterville, with Pastor Bob Morwell officiating.
Memorial contributions are the preferred form of remembrance and can be made to the Carterville First United Methodist Church or to the Salvation Army.
Wilma was born March 19, 1920, to Mayme (Oliver) and Fred Peterson, in Creal Springs. They moved to Carterville soon thereafter! Wilma graduated from Carterville Elementary and High Schools. She later attended Business College in Evansville, Indiana for 2 years. She married Captain Charles Porter on October 16, 1941. When WWII ended, they moved to Chicago, residing there approximately 40 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Carl; and husband, Charles.
Wilma is survived by her nephew, Jim (Barbara) Peterson of Mattoon; niece, Jeri (Jim) Huckaba of Mattoon; great-niece, J’nai (Cliff) Wiley of Sidney; and great great-niece, Henlea Wiley.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Carterville.
