William "Bill" Everett Smith, 60, of Carterville, passed away Friday, October 2, 2020, at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale.
At Bill's request, his body will be donated to science. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Memorial contributions can be made to the family and can be sent to the funeral home.
Bill was born April 3, 1960, in Carbondale, to Everett Louis and Lucille C. (Rowan) Smith.
He is survived by his son, Zane Smith (fiancée, Taylor Comp) of Carterville; daughter, Sydney Smith of Minneapolis, Minnesota; sister, Janet Stevens of Carterville; brothers, Bob (Janice) Kerley of Springfield and Fred (Colleen) Kerley of Makanda; the mother of his children, Sarah (Shelton) Summer of Carterville; special cousin, Mike "Lerch" Rowan; plus numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and a host of friends.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Jerry Kerley.
He was a building maintenance worker at John A. Logan College for over 20 years.
Bill enjoyed going fishing and was a talented woodworker. He never met a stranger and will be dearly missed.
