Wayne Calhoun Obituary

Wayne Calhoun, 85, of Marion, passed away Monday, February 26, 2024, at the CLC at the Marion V.A.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, March 2, 2024, at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville, with Greg Poole officiating. Burial with military rites will be at Pleasant Grove Memorial Park in Murphysboro. Visitation will be from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m., Saturday, at the funeral home.

Wayne was born July 21, 1938, in Harrisburg, to Charles Franklin and Ressie Inez (Sweet) Calhoun. He married Mary Louise Morris on August 26, 1982, in Carterville. She preceded him in death on July 6, 2022.

He is survived by his sister, Marilyn May of Sparta; step-children, Richard (Hope) Morony of Carterville, Susan (Wade) Chalfant of Utah, Robert S. Morony of Florida, Samantha (Steve) Barnett of DuQuoin, and Jeanie Bailey of DuQuoin; grandchildren, Robert C. Morony, Megan Daigle, Cody Ritchie, Austin (Kayla) Chalfant, Tabitha Morony, Cole Barnett, Viola Bailey, Vivian Bailey, Kristopher Boomer, Page (Samara) Martinez, Axel (Amber) Madison, Travis (Shania) Barnett, and Erica Barnett; great-grandchildren, Kenlee, Aubree, Lanee, Gavin, Hayden, Adyson, Quincy, Maggie Mae, Ava Lynn, Cooper, Oakley, Ryker, Everleigh, Paisley, Blake, and Lincoln; sister-in-law, Shirley Calhoun of Carterville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary Calhoun; brothers, Harold and Arlie F. Calhoun; and sister, Dorothy Tripp.

He honorably served our country in the United States Air Force.

Wayne was a route driver for over 17 years for Selmer Peerless. He also was a route driver for Candy Cane and Stiles Office Supplies over the years.

He was a man of simple pleasures-his favorite things were to take care of the yard and to be outside listening to the radio. Wayne did enjoy watching old Westerns and cheering on his beloved St. Louis Cardinals.
