Wanda Lea Spiller, 98, of Carterville, passed away Sunday, July 16, 2023, at Herrin Hospital, with family by her side.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, July 22, 2023, at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville, with Pastor Daryl Varble officiating. Burial will be in North Oakwood Cemetery in Carterville. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Saturday, at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions can be made to Grand Avenue Baptist Church or to the Carterville Food Pantry.
Wanda was born April 4, 1925, in Carterville, to Earl and Ruby (Crain) Emery Sr. She married Gilbert “Gib” A. Spiller on October 17, 1942, in Jackson, Missouri. He preceded her in death on February 5, 1989.
She is survived by her son, Bill Spiller of Carterville; sister, Sue Jones of Carterville; brothers, Jim (Phyllis) Emery, and Tony (Edith) Emery; and numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.
Wanda was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Earl Jr., Paul, Delmar, Gary, Larry, and Don Emery; and daughter-in-law, Sandy Spiller.
She worked at Good Luck Glove Factory in Carbondale for many years as well as at Baskin Robbins. Wanda had also worked as a cook at Carterville High School for over 10 years.
Wanda was a devoted member of Grand Avenue Baptist Church in Carterville where she served as a Sunday School teacher for many years.
She enjoyed feeding and watching the birds in her yard. She was also a member of the “McDonalds’ Crew”. If you knew Wanda, then you knew how much she loved to be social and talk to everyone!
