Virginia Fay Capps Spence, 89, of Herrin and formerly of Carterville, passed away Thursday, May 8, 2025, surrounded by her family.
Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 17, 2025, at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville. Graveside services will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Willowrest Cemetery in Carterville, conducted by her family.
Fay was born on November 11, 1935, in Harlan, Kentucky, to Bert and Nola Fay (Goins) Drinnon.
She is survived by her stepson, Frank Freeman; grandchildren, Laura (Todd) Anderson, Jennifer Hahn (Mike Quire), Timothy (Becky) Spain, Joseph Reynolds, Lena (Mark) Coleman, Emily Reynolds (Dionte Hickman); twenty-three great-grandchildren; seventeen great great-grandchildren; sister, Irene Hendricks; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Deborah Reynolds; son, Harold Freeman; grandson, Sean Spain; and eleven brothers and sisters.
She worked on the assembly line at Allen Industries for over 30 years.
Fay enjoyed reading, going boating, talking to her friends and keeping up with her family on Facebook.
