Violet Renner Obituary

Violet “Polly” Marie Renner, 92, of Carterville, passed away Monday, November 16, 2020, at Integrity Healthcare of Carbondale.

Private family graveside services will be held. However, a live stream of the service can be viewed beginning at 1:00 p.m. CST, Friday, November 20, 2020, via the funeral home’s facebook page.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Baptist Children’s Home in Carmi.

Polly was born November 16, 1928, in Pomona, Illinois, to Alvah and Mary (Stearns) Nance. She married James McKissic and he preceded her in death on February 20, 1954. Polly later married Earle Renner on June 8, 1957, in Carbondale. He preceded her in death on January 11, 2004.

She is survived by her daughters, Jayleen (Ron) Waldron of Carterville and Jane (Octavio) Gomez of Champaign; grandchildren, Ronnie (Kirsty) Waldron of Carterville, Becky (Mark) Mitchell of East Berlin, Pennsylvania, Cyndy (David) Ross of Urbana, and Barry (Suzanne) Brock of Tolono, Illinois; great-grandchildren, Jordyn (Lucas) Kinkelaar, Alec (Taylor) Waldron, McKenzie Waldron, Adam Mitchell, Jorie Mitchell, Kyle Ross, Caleb Ross, Grace Brock, Jordan Borbely, and Drew Borbely; great great-grandchildren, Kamryn Waldron, Elliott Kinkelaar, Kenna Kinkelaar, Ryker Waldron, and Lakyn Waldron; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Polly was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; stepdaughter, Judi Lynn Renner; sisters, Bertha Crowder, Etta Baggott, Louise Penrod, and Alice Presley; and brothers, James, Lloyd, Moody, Melvin, Cecil, and Ray Nance.

She was an active member of Carterville First Baptist Church, where she served many years working in V.B.S. and the Girls’ Mission Group, and with the Senior department. Polly also was a member of the Marion Senior Citizens Center.

Polly was an avid gem and rock hunter who would travel all over collecting gems and rocks.  She also belonged to the S.I. Gem and Mineral Club where she served as President and Show Chairman, displaying every year at the S.I. Gem and Mineral Show.

Polly was creative in every sense of the word. She was a talented artist who enjoyed making jewelry, in addition to various other crafts, and loved to go square dancing.

Polly had been a bookkeeper for Renner’s Auto Clinic in Carterville for many years.
