Vickie Lynn Williams-Taylor was a friend to many. Her sudden passing at her Elkville home on February 10, 2023, will leave a great space to fill in so many lives.
Daughter to William and Katherine Joyce (Walsh) Hacker, Vickie was born in Los Angeles, California on November 30, 1959. On February 14, 2012, she married her husband, Lester Taylor, in Bush, Illinois.
Vickie’s true passion in life was her role as Nana to her grandchildren.
She enjoyed the outdoors and camping, but was happiest when fishing.
A feisty spirit, Vickie loved animals and was an avid reader. She shared that spirit, her love for animals, and her appetite for reading with both of her daughters.
Vickie coached softball and helped lead her daughters’ Girl Scout troops, working for Hurst-Bush school early in her career.
She spent the longest portion of her career in retail, working nearly two decades for Walmart’s Carbondale store before retiring in 2012.
She is survived by her husband, Lester Taylor; daughters, Samantha (Ricky) Rogers, and Maria (Nathan) Colombo; grandchildren, Angel, Bella, Kayelynn, Nicholas, Leeah, Peyton, Zachary; father, William Hacker; sister, Sharon (Fred) Buckingham; brother, Billy (Martha) Hacker; brother, Robert Culver; brother, David (Tracey) Brasel; step-children, Samantha Miller, Christina (Mark) Dollins, Jennifer Malendez, and Aaron Taylor; step-grandchildren, Chase, Matt, Jersey, Kaden, Ayden, Gaige, Braiden, Shawna, Blaine, Piper, Beckham, Amarekis, Sarenitty, and Aerabella; great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Vickie was preceded in death by her mother, Katherine; her first husband, Robert “Bert” Williams; and her grandson, Brandon Williams.
Memorial contributions can be made to Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home to aid the family with final expenses.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, February 16, 2023, at Riggin-Pillatsch and Burke Funeral Home in Carterville, the Rev. R.H. Chitwood officiating. Visitation will begin after 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 15, 2023, at the funeral home. Burial will be at a later date in Blairsville Cemetery.
