Verna Mae Reynolds, 88, of Herrin, passed away Thursday, December 8, 2022, at her home, surrounded by her family.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 13, 2022, at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville, with Revs. Michael Tetmeyer and Bob Wynn officiating. Burial will be in Herrin City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, at the funeral home.
Verna Mae was born on February 24, 1934, in Herrin, to Charles and Eva Lea (Davis) Finney Sr. She married Thomas James King in 1951, and he preceded her in death in 1958. Verna Mae then married Lawrence P. “Bud” Colson in 1960, and he preceded her in death in 2002. She later married Carl W. Reynolds in 2005, and he preceded her in death in 2017.
She is survived by her sons, Tom (Dianna) King, and Larry Colson, all of Herrin; daughters, Terri Lea (Bob) Wynn of Crainville, Pamela (Gene) Naputi of DuQuoin, Tiana (Mike) Thomas of Leroy, Ohio, and Renata “Susie” King of Herrin; grandchildren, Jared (Ciara) King, Faith King, Michael Colson, Stephen Colson, Tiffany (Eric) Haefele, Jeremy (Jennifer) Wynn, Jamie (David) Luff, Angela (Lee) Miskelly, Forest Dale Shearer Jr., Daniel Paul (Brandi) Shearer, Leah Canada, Shannon (Tammy) Vachet, Shane (Jacqulyn) Vachet, Matt (Patty) Thomas, Terra (James) Dunfee, Tanya (Tim) Russell, Verna “Susie” (Angelo) O’Dierno, Michael Wallin, and Jeff Wallin; numerous great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, great great-great grandchildren; sisters, Linda Sue Caraker of Herrin, and Betty Trout of Arthur; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and her beloved dogs, Buffy, Digger, and Lexi.
Verna Mae was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; daughter, Ramona Wallin; brothers, Lloyd, Robert, Kenneth, and Charles Finney Jr.; and sisters, Vivian Finney and Lois Burns.
She had a calling for caring for others and had been a nurse’s aide as well as a caregiver.
Verna Mae was a faithful member of the First Pentecostal Church in Herrin.
She enjoyed making crafts, crocheting, and reading.
Her family fondly referred to her as “Snowbird” and how she loved them dearly.
