Vera Mae (Sparks) Smith

Vera Mae Smith, 89, of Crainville, passed away Thursday, December 22, 2022, at her daughter’s home.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, December 30, 2022, at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville, with Rev. Cody Knapik officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery in Carterville. Visitation will be from noon to 1:00 p.m., Friday, at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions can be made to Crainville Baptist Church.

Vera was born April 23, 1933, in Herrin, to Paul and May (Colp) Sparks. She married Paul Smith on September 2, 1951, in Mississippi. He preceded her in death on December 10, 1976.

She is survived by her daughter, Cinda K. (Phillip) Wilkins of Crainville; son, Jeremy Brandon Smith of Crainville; and grandson, Matthew Alexander Wilkins of Huntsville, Alabama.

Vera was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Virgie Mabry; and brother, Richard Sparks.

She had worked at Good Luck Glove Factory in Carbondale for many years. Vera spent over 10 years as the biscuit maker at the Hardee’s in Carterville.

Vera was a lifelong member of Crainville Baptist Church.

She was an avid reader who also enjoyed crocheting. Vera especially loved spending time with her family.
