He was born on October 11, 1947, in Newport Kentucky, to William and Mary (Abner) Averitt.

Tom was an auto mechanic by trade but could fix anything. He loved the outdoors and fishing, hunting and watching NASCAR were his favorite pastimes.  He always had a joke and a smile for everyone he met, but he will be remembered most for the unconditional love he had for his family and dear friends.

He is survived by his daughter, Lori Emery of Marion; son, Tommy Averitt of Benton; grandchildren, Katelyn Emery (Quinton Adams) of Stonefort, Nicholas Emery of Marion, Taryn Averitt of Goreville, and Kathlyn, “Kitty” Averitt of Benton; two great-grandsons, Maverick and Maddox Adams of  Stonefort; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Carol (Neal) Watkins and Mary (Elry) Faulkner, all of Vienna; two brothers, Jesse Averitt of Vienna and John Paul Averitt of Anna; one brother-in-law, William (Hanna) Mills of Vienna; best friend, Joni Peairs of Marion; also several nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents; several siblings; one granddaughter, Cecilia Emery; and one great-grandson, Maxwell Emery.

Per his wishes, he will be cremated and a grave side service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made directly to the funeral home.
