Thomas L. Emery

Tommy “Thomas” L. Emery, 78, of Marion, passed away Tuesday, December 17, 2024, at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Evansville, Indiana.

He was born on May 22, 1946, at Herrin Hospital, to Ralph Laverne and Betty Jean (Saul) Emery of Marion, Illinois. Thomas married Cheryl Rae Lechman on April 5, 1967, in Carlinville, Illinois. Together they shared 57 wonderful years.

A proud Marine Corps veteran, Thomas honorably served his country during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, he dedicated 40 years as a lineman and wireman electrician, retiring in 2004. He was a proud member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) for 34 years.

Thomas was an avid sports enthusiast who cheered passionately for his children, grandchildren as well as his beloved Chicago Cubs and Bears. He also enjoyed golfing, spending time outdoors, and cherishing the beauty of nature with his wife and dog.  A man of faith, he was a devoted member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Marion.

He is survived by his wife, Cheryl Emery; daughters, Jenny (Anthony) Danner, Rachel Ann Butler, and Lindsey Kay Emery; grandchildren, Peyton and Zoey Danner, Alison, Lexi, and Isiah Butler, and Thomas and Nicholas King; great-grandchildren, Kaden, Kamron, and Armoni; and brother, David Emery.

Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Richard Emery.

Thomas was a selfless man.  He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered for his dedication, faith, and love for life.

Memorial services, hosted by his family, will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 28, 2024, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Marion, Illinois. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., Saturday, at the church.
