Tammy Lynn Howell, 56, of Colp, passed away Sunday, March 9, 2025, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, surrounded by her family.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville, with Rev. Ralph Brandon and Pastor Michael Agapito officiating. Burial will be in Blairsville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions can be made to the funeral home to help offset funeral expenses.
Tammy was born on March 30, 1968, in Herrin, to Dewey Lee and Melba Doris (Hogg) O’Daniell. She married James Howell on October 25, 1991, in Carterville.
She is survived by her husband, Jim Howell; daughter, Alex Howell; grandsons, Atticus and Malakai Howell; brother, Deron (Pam) O’Daniell; plus several aunts, uncle, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Tammy was preceded in death by her parents.
Tammy served as a teacher's aide at North Side School in Herrin and as a receptionist at Franklin County Hospital. She was the former Mayor of Colp and also served as Village Clerk.
Above all, her most cherished role was being a mother and grandmother. Tammy was an avid reader.
Tammy was a lifetime member of Hope Chapel Methodist Church in Colp until its closure and was a current member of Crainville Baptist Church.
A devoted fan of Saluki basketball, Tammy was a people person who had never met a stranger.
