Susan Lee Bleyer, 43, of Marion, passed away on Wednesday, November 2, 2023, at home, surrounded by family. Susan was born in Lithia Springs, Georgia, daughter of Joan (Seat) and Albert Smith. She was a wonderful wife of Brooks Bleyer and mother to two incredible children.
Susan worked in the Marion school district in several positions where she was surrounded by kids whom she became a second mom to and watched those young kitty cats grow into Wild Cats. She traveled around the area to many sporting and theater events, making many lifelong friends along the way.
Susan is survived by her mother, Joan Smith, adoring wife, Brooks Bleyer, children, William Bush (Shelby) and Xander Bush (Kyliegh), all of Marion, Illinois; her nieces, Keisha Goines and husband, Wes, of Andrews, North Carolina and Madison Weaver of New Orleans, Louisiana, sister-in-law, Lisa Weaver, of Marion, Illinois; and special cousin, Kathy Williams of St. Petersburg, Florida; and many dear friends.
She is preceded in death by her father, Albert Smith, and brothers, Tony Neal and Douglas Neal.
She found a love for New Orleans, and it was fitting that she and her wife were married on March 11, 2022, in Jackson Square. It was the best day ever!
Those who had the privilege of knowing Susan were touched in one way or another by her unbounded love. It was always prevalent with her family or friends whether talking sports, raising the boys, sharing a drink, or reliving her love for New Orleans and her wedding day in Jackson Square.
Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 8, 2023, at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville, Illinois. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 10, 2023, at Goddard Chapel, in Marion. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Marion Food Pantry, 923 N. Bentley, Marion, IL 62959.
