Sue Barwick, 90, of Cambria, passed away on Thursday, March 5, 2026, at Herrin Hospital, with family by her side.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at the Cambria First Apostolic Church, with her son, Rev. Chris Hammonds, Rev. R.H. Chitwood and Rev. Zach Cox officiating. Burial will be at Willowrest Cemetery in Carterville. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, at the church.
Memorial contributions can be made to the family or charity of donor’s choice.
Sue was born on May 25, 1935, in Carterville, to Wilma (Walker) and Ora Tripp. She married Clifton Garrett Hammonds in 1951, and he preceded her in death on December 30, 1983. Sue later married Charles “Chuck” A. Barwick on July 5, 1988, in Paducah, Kentucky. He preceded her in death on July 23, 2017.
She is survived by her children, Wilma Dean (Kenny) Holder, Randall (Donna) Hammonds, Chris (Vicki) Hammonds, Leslie (Jim) Aaron, and Mike Hammonds; 20 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; daughter, Clifta Jean Stearns; son, Kelly Lynn Hammonds; grandson, Cory Stearns; granddaughter and her husband, Kristin (Josh) Miller; and sister, Shelby Holmes.
She retired in 1997 from Ollin-Mathis Industries after many years of dedicated service.
Sue was a devout member of Cambria First Apostolic Church. Christmas was her favorite time of the year, and caring for children was always her number one priority above all else.
Sue will be remembered for her deep love for her family, her strong faith, and the kindness she showed to everyone she met.
