Steven Wayne Rhodes

Steven Wayne Rhodes, 74, of Carterville, passed away on Thursday, January 22, 2026, at Herrin Hospital.

A Memorial service will be held at 5:00 p.m., Thursday, February 12, 2026, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Carterville, with reflections by Bill Harper.

He was born on February 6, 1951, in Quincy, to Wanda Lou (Davidson) and Samuel Jonathon Rhodes. Steven married Catherine Josephine Palmier on July 27, 1985, in Murphysboro.

Steven is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, Cathy Rhodes; step-son, David (Kim) Smith; brother, Mark (Donna) Rhodes; plus nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and sisters, Terral Steele and Cynthia Goode.

 Steven was a registered nurse and respiratory therapist who dedicated more than 20 years of service to SIH. He worked at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale, St. Joseph’s Hospital in Murphysboro, and also served patients at the Marion VA. His work was not just a career—it was his life and passion.

Steven also had a deep love for animals, and they held a special place in his heart.
