Snyder "Stony" Herrin Obituary

Snyder Bruce “Stony” Herrin, 62, of Hurst, passed away Tuesday, October 19, 2021, at his home, surrounded by his family.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 22, 2021, at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville, with Rev. Ralph Brandon officiating. Burial will be in North Oakwood Cemetery in Carterville. Visitation will be from noon to 2:00 p.m., Friday, at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society.

Bruce was born December 23, 1958, in Killeen, Texas, to Snyder E. and Barbara Jean (Phillips) Herrin II. He married Angelyn (Kerley) Messick on April 25, 2020, in Hurst.

He is survived by his loving wife, Angelyn Messick of Hurst; children, Brooke (Jimmy) Hand of Herrin, Chloe Messick of Hurst, Jaxson Messick of Hurst, and Jeremy Taitt of Carbondale; mother, Barbara Miller of Carterville; father, Snyder (Ivy) Herrin II of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; sisters, Kathy Rogers of Carterville, Becky (Carl) Morgan of Waynesboro, Georgia, Andrea Steen of Carbondale, and Heather (Gabe) Bostick of Selma, Texas; brother, Greg (Stacy) Herrin of Carterville; father-in-law, Donald (Linda) Kerley of Cambria; mother-in-law, Norma Kerley of Hurst; brother-in-law, James Kerley of Hurst; sister-in-law, Gretchen (Derek) Freeman of Hurst; aunts and uncles, Terry (Susie) Phillips of Petersburg, Illinois, Albert (Carol) Phillips of Herrin, Marilyn Phillips of Herrin, and Sandra Herrin of Carbondale; special nephew, Malik Petty; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; plus a host of dear friends.

Bruce was preceded in death by his grandparents, Albert (Helen) Phillips and Snyder (Norma) Herrin; step-father, Ed Miller; great-grandmother, Hazel Jeffery, brother-in-law, Carl Rogers, and best friend, Gary Peldo.

He was a self-employed carpenter.

Bruce enjoyed being the center of attention and the life of the party who also liked riding his Harley, shooting pool, and singing karaoke.  He never met a stranger and was always there anytime he was needed.  He loved spending time with family and friends.
