Sherron Evonne Nance, 82, of Carterville, passed away Sunday, October 9, 2022, at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 12, 2022, at First Baptist Church in Carterville, with Rev. Brad Harlow officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Makanda. Visitation will be from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, at the church.
Memorial contributions can be made to First Baptist Church in Carterville.
Sherron was born August 6, 1940, in Makanda, to Ogle and Ethel (Blessing) Glasford. She married Arvel Wayne Nance on February 20, 1960, in Makanda. He preceded her in death on September 16, 2007.
She is survived by her son, David Nance of Carterville; daughter, Angie (Brian) Brown of Carterville; grandchildren, Travis Nance, Tyler Nance, Sarah Brown, Meredith Brown, and Patrick (Alex) Brown; siblings, Norma (Mike) Lager and David (Gretchen) Glasford; and many dear friends.
Sherron was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Larry Nance; sister, Barbara Glasford; and brother, Jim Glasford.
She was a member of First Baptist Church in Carterville, where she sang in the choir, as well with the Joysingers.
She was a cook at Carbondale Middle School for over 24 years. Never one to shy away from hard work, Sherron loved to be of service to others, particularly doing volunteer work. Sherron’s volunteer work with the Pink Geranium Gift Shop at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale was recognized as a honoree for Year of the Volunteer.
Sherron was a doll collector who enjoyed spending time fishing. She, along with her husband, Arvel, loved to watch their grandkids’ sporting events.
