Sharon K. Baxter, 71, of Carterville, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, at her home.
Sharon was preceded in death by her husband, Joe E. Baxter Jr.
She is survived by her sister, Vicky (Robert) Bruce of Makanda, Illinois; brother, Clifford (Gertrude) Willing of South Carolina; aunt, Patricia Kennedy of Ft. Pierce, Florida; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; and the daughter of her heart, Holly Gean Frye of Roanoke, Virginia.
Sharon retired in March 2023, after many years of service for the State of Illinois Department of Children and Families. She was a devoted worker and friend.
Sharon was a skilled writer and artist, also known for her deep love of all animals-especially dogs, cats, and horses. She loved music-especially Macy Gray. However, nothing topped her love for early morning walks along a Florida beach and collecting shells.
A memorial for local family and friends will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 14, 2023, at Ketring & Associates, 1306 North Atcheson Avenue, Suite B, Marion, IL 62959. In the days to follow, a small, private memorial service with family will be held in South Florida, with a final white wine toast and shared memories at one of Sharon’s favorite beaches and sunset destinations.
In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to remember Sharon, to the ASPCA.org website. This would be a beautiful way to honor your memory of Sharon by helping to ensure a better life and give hope for animals in need.
