She married Charles “Charlie” L. Barnes on September 16, 1967, in Herrin. He preceded her in death on June 21, 2021. Together they had shared 53 wonderful years.
She is survived by her children, Shawn (Melinda) Barnes of St. Louis, Bonnie (Kevin) Howerton of Carterville, and Donna (Adam) Compton of Carterville; grandchildren, Brennan (Megan) Barnes and Cameron Barnes, Ruby Madison (Caleb) Minus, Delaney and Charlie Howerton, and Kenadi and Kash Compton; sister, Betty (Sam) Cox of Kerr, Texas; sister-in-law, Anna Faye Biggs of Herrin; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and a host of dear friends.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Kenny, Stanley and Jimmy Jacobson; mother and father-in-law, William Everett and Pauline; brothers and sisters-in-law, Everett and JoAnn Barnes, Laverne and Edna (Barnes) Bailey; brother in law, LR Biggs; and sister-in-law, Paula (Barnes) Collins.
She retired from the accounting department at Allen Industries after 20 years of service. Sharon had also worked at Samples Plumbing in Marion for many years.
She enjoyed spending time with her high school friends at their monthly luncheons and most recently, “Meals on Mondays” luncheons at the Carterville Community Center had become the bright spot of her day. But, by far, her favorite pastime was spending time with her husband before his passing. She loved being around her children and grandchildren and took pride in attending as many events of theirs as possible. They were the joy of her life!
