Scott Houston, 69, of Carterville, passed away on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, July 27, 2025, at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville, with Ministers Bill Brandstatter and Adell Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Willowrest Cemetery in Carterville. Visitation will begin after 6:00 p.m., Saturday, July 26, 2025, at the funeral home.
Scott was born on March 30, 1956, in Carbondale, to James Matthew and Kathryn “Kay” Eileen (Scott) Houston. He married Judy Lynn Smith on November 24, 1979, in Carterville.
He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Judy Houston; children, Rob Houston, and Rebecca (Daniel) Linares; grandchildren, Preston Green, Lilly Linares, and Daniel Linares; sister, Brenda (Patrick) Lillard.
Scott was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Louis Rosenberger; and son, Andrew Aaron Houston.
Scott was a skilled welder and electrician with the United Mine Workers of America (UMWA). He also served his community with pride, working as a police officer for Carterville and later as the Police Chief of Crainville. He had worked at American Coal in Galatia and was currently working at General Dynamics as an operator.
He was a devoted member of the Church of Christ in Marion.
Scott enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially caring for his yard, going for walks, and being with his beloved dogs. He had a deep love for music, with a special appreciation for Blues.
