Sammie Glenn Pansing, 97, of Carterville, passed away Monday, February 1, 2021, at her daughter’s home in Herrin, surrounded by her family.
Graveside services will be held at a later date at Willowrest Cemetery in Carterville.
Memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois or to First Baptist Church of Carterville.
Sammie was born December 15, 1923, in Birmingham, Alabama, to Samuel and Aldie Lenora (Dunn) Spradling. She married Roy J. Glenn on February 14, 1941, in Birmingham, Alabama. He preceded her in death on June 23, 1994. She later married Robert “Jake” Pansing on July 3, 2004, in Carterville. He preceded her in death on August 26, 2016.
She is survived by her daughter, Ellen Anderson of Herrin; stepsons, Terry (Sharon) Pansing of Cummings Georgia and Brian (Dawn) Pansing of Columbia, Illinois; grandchildren, Robin (Craig) Lester of Herrin, Lisa (Kurt) Endebrock of Kettering, Ohio, Jennifer Thomas (fiancé, Ryan O’Hayer) of Mesa, Arizona, and Jay (Nicole) Glenn of Allen, Texas, step grandchildren, Drew and Max Pansing of Columbia, Illinois and Dennis (Kelly) Berkemeier of Cummings, Georgia; 11 great grandchildren; 1 great great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews; and her dear friends: Wanda Storme Whitney, Kay Brown, and Don Yewell, whom she fondly considered her “adopted son.”
Sammie was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; son, Jerry Glenn; son-in-law, Keith Anderson; and 7 brothers and sisters.
She served as the secretary for Glenn & Co. Construction in Carterville for many years.
Sammie was a member of First Baptist Church in Carterville, the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and the Ladies Association at the Crab Orchard Golf Course.
She, along with her late husband, Roy Glenn, founded Crab Orchard Golf Course in 1959.
