Sally Ann Rich, 90, of Carterville, passed away Saturday, April 20, 2024, at her home, with her family by her side.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at Reynoldsburg Cemetery in rural Tunnell Hill, with Rev. Dewayne Sheumaker officiating.
Memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois or to Crainville Baptist Church.
Sally was born November 6, 1933, in Cooperstown, Illinois, to Nellie Ellen (Hayward) and Robert Young Sr. She married John “Sam” Samuel Rich Sr. on July 18, 1953, at Crainville Baptist Church. They were married for 63 years before his passing on August 30, 2016.
She is survived by her daughter, Sue Ellen Rich; son, John S. (Debby) Rich Jr.; grandchildren, Emily (Major), and Jonathan; great-grandchildren, Lexi, Jack, and Valley Rich; brother, Kenny “Ace” Young; sister-in-law, Nancy Speck; beloved nieces and nephews; and her church family.
Sally was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Bob (Lucille) and Jerry Young; sisters, Loretta (Don) Roseboom and Leisle Malencore; sister-in-law, Sue (Jack) Ridley; and brother-in-law, Jack (Rae) Rich.
She worked as a secretary at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale.
Sally was a member of Crainville Baptist Church.
She continually educated herself and closely followed current events by reading newspapers, magazines, and books, and watching documentaries and news on television. She enjoyed vacationing annually with her late husband, Sam, to different locations, where they would meet up with his Army buddies and their spouses.
Sally’s family would like to thank Hospice of Southern Illinois for all of their excellent care they provided these last few months.
