Ruth Ann (Wynn) Bean

Ruth Ann Bean, 85, of Carterville, passed away Friday, November 29, 2024, at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale, with her daughter by her side.

She was born October 10, 1939, in Carterville, to Carl and Claudia (Poole) Wynn.

Ruth Ann was a woman of many talents and accomplishments. She dedicated her professional life to serving as a secretary at Carterville High School, then at John A. Logan College, and Southern Illinois University, where she became a mentor to many. Her guidance and warm demeanor left an indelible mark on colleagues and students alike. A former beauty queen, Ruth Ann carried herself with grace and confidence throughout her life. She was also an entrepreneur, using her creativity and determination to make her mark in the business world.

A devoted member of Carterville Christian Church, Ruth Ann lived her faith through kindness and service. She was also a talented artist, finding joy and inspiration in her creative pursuits. One of her greatest pleasures was traveling extensively with her beloved mother, exploring new places and creating cherished memories.

Ruth Ann is survived by her daughters, Donna Scott (Lee) Elliott, and Debbie Crews; grandchildren, Beth Griffith, Linsey Hogue, Ryan Dear, and Sarah Elliott; great-grandchildren, Dylan Fuqua, Ryker and Ryder Hogue, Kiley and Noah Dear; sister, Carlene Spiller; and significant other, Bill Beasley.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Nancy Sizemore; and brothers-in-law, Larry Sizemore and J.T. Spiller.

Memorial services will be held at 5:00 p.m., Thursday, December 5, 2024, at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville, with Pastor Matt Brown officiating. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., Thursday, at the funeral home.
