Rusty was born on November 15, 1962, in Herrin, to James D. and Glenda C. (Pullum) Lawrence.
He is survived by his children, Brandy Lawrence, Kelley (Gary) Taborn, Megan Musgrave, Elijah (Tyler) Napoli, Joshua Hatfield, Dustin Hatfield, Amber Glotfelty; 21 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; sisters, Robin Lawrence-Leganski, Darla (David) Beers, and Peggy Kerley; brothers, Tony (Toni) Lawrence, and Freddy (Fran) Lawrence; plus numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Rusty was preceded in death by his parents; son, Michael Pumfrey; and uncle, Paul Kerley.
Rusty was a devoted auto mechanic with a deep love for motorcycles and the open road. He had a passion for the outdoors and was an avid fisherman, always drawn to the peace and beauty of the ocean — his favorite place on earth, and the only place he ever truly felt at peace.
Rusty had a zest for life and lived every day to the fullest. He was known for his quick wit, infectious sense of humor, and his deep desire to make those around him smile. With a kind soul and a generous heart, he never met a stranger and made everyone feel like a friend.
More than anything, Rusty cherished his family — especially his children and grandchildren, who brought him immense joy and pride.
He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the Siteman Cancer Center and Hospice of Southern Illinois for their compassionate care and support during Rusty's illness.
