Rosemarie (Bogard) Howerton, 93, of Carterville, passed away Tuesday, March 28, 2023, at Herrin Hospital, surrounded by her family.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, April 2, 2023, at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville, with Revs. Dwayne Sheumaker and Ryan Tackett officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery in Carterville. Visitation will be from noon to 3:00 p.m., Sunday, at the funeral home.

Rosemarie was born January 20, 1930, in Carterville, to John David and Susie Colleen (Artz) Bogard. She married James Loy Howerton on January 6, 1950. He preceded her in death on December 26, 1988.
Rosemarie was baptized on May 1, 1939, at the First Baptist Church in Carterville. She remained an active member of that church during her lifetime until her death. Rosemarie had served as a Trustee and Financial Supervisor since 1988 and would accompany church mission trips. She was also a lifetime member of the Eastern Star, serving as Worthy Matron in 1959-1960. Rosemarie served on the board for both Friends of Crab Orchard and Modern Woodmen of America.
Rosemarie graduated from Carterville Grade and High Schools. A lifelong learner, Rosemarie attended John A. Logan College and later graduated from Southern Illinois University with a Bachelor’s degree in Workforce Education in 2015.
She worked at Sangamo Electric, Universal Match, Olin, Veterans Hospital in Marion, and retired after 20 years as an Accountant and Program Examiner for the Department of Justice-Washington, D.C.
Rosemarie did not have children of her own but was proud to claim nieces and nephews as her own. Survivors include: nephews, Doug (Donna) Bogard, Tim (Barb) Bogard, Walter (Cyndi) Bogard; nieces, Colleen (Rick) O’Neal, Annette Draper; great-nieces, Crystal Bogard, Callie Bogard, Addison (Garrett) Davault, and Shelly (Eli) Fisher, Stacia Draper, and Kristina (Josh) Hard; great-nephews, Jeremy Bogard, Jared (Susan) Bogard, Richard Bogard, Sean O’Neal, Aaron O’Neal, Josh O’Neal, Jason Draper, Ian Bogard, Kylie Bogard, Drake Bogard, and Gunner Bogard. Also a big part of her family-her sister-in-law, Colleen Bogard.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers and sisters-in-law, Thomas (Grace) Bogard, Harry (Verta) Bogard, and Richard “Dick” Bogard; and niece, Roseanne Grigsby.
Rosemarie was an avid golfer who loved to travel.
