Ronald "Ron" Edward Mitchell

Ronald “Ron” Edward Mitchell, 77, of Crainville, passed away Monday, April 15, 2024, at Herrin Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, April 19, 2024, at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville, with Pastor Jeff Wiggs officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery in Carterville. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Friday, at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Village of Crainville for the future Memorial Garden dedicated in his name.

Ron was born August 1, 1946, in Carbondale, to Edward Gordon and Bernice E. (Brewer) Mitchell. He married Patricia Ann Jones on June 20, 2009, in Crainville.

He is survived by his wife, Patty Ann Mitchell; daughters, Lorie (Matthew) Barnett and Jeannie Mitchell (Charles Vale); step-daughters, Stephanie Weathers, Michelle Weathers, and Kimberly Weathers; grandchildren, Bryce Collins, Ronnie Barnett, Daniel Barnett, Zoey Brantley, Phoenix Hickam, and Zanen Weathers; sisters, Joyce (Ed) Fear, and Darla (John) Shelby; brothers, Eric Mitchell, Randy (Susie) Mitchell, and Denny (Effie) Mitchell; plus numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Larry Steven and Darrell “Whitey” Mitchell.

He served in the Army National Guard.

Ron was a salesman for Western & Southern Insurance in Carbondale for 15 years. He had worked at Tesa Tape for over 30 years.

He was currently serving his beloved Crainville Community as their Mayor, for his fourth consecutive term. Ron was active and was also the President of the Crosswalk Community Action Board.

Ron had a passion for music and was a talented guitar and piano player.

Ron said he was a rich man because he had a beautiful wife whom he adored, daughters that he loved, and grandsons that he treasured.  There was nothing more joyful to him than time with his family.
