Ronald “Dino” Duane Hickman, 76, of Carterville, passed away Thursday, February 13, 2025, at his home.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 19, 2025, at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville. Graveside services with military rites will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 20, 2025, at Pleasant Grove Memorial Park in Murphysboro.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Youth Golf at Crab Orchard Golf Course in Carterville.
Ronald was born March 8, 1948, in Joliet, to Wiley Gaylord and WandaAnn Imogene (Yordy) Hickman. He married F. Diane “Cookie” Biggs on January 18, 1975, in Carbondale. She preceded him in death on May 2, 2016.
He is survived by his daughters, Catherine Jean Biggs and Casey Jean Hickman (Georgio Miller); son, Bruce Engel; 7 grandchildren, Jami Moore, Tegan Miller, Tiffany, Skylar, Brandee, Mikie, and Johnnie Engel; great-grandchildren, Elijah Moore and Jeliyah Moore-Jackson; brother, Douglas Lynn (Deb) Hickman; plus many extended family members and friends.
Ronald was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and brothers, Robert and Wiley Larry Hickman.
Ronald worked at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale for 31 ½ years in the IT Department, with 17 of those years serving as a budget officer. He had previously worked for the University of South Florida for 3 years.
A decorated veteran of the United States Army, Specialist 5 Ronald Hickman served with distinction and received the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Vietnam Campaign Medal.
He was a passionate golfer and member of Crab Orchard Golf Club. Ronald also enjoyed meeting his friends at the Pin Oak.
