Ronald J. Martis, 80, of Carbondale, passed away on Monday, December 29, 2025, at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 5, 2025, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin, with Fr. Mark Reyling officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., Monday, at the church. Military rites will immediately follow conducted by the Marine Corps Ritual Team, and the Carterville American Legion Post and Herrin VFW and American Legion Post.

Ronald was born on June 30, 1945, in Joliet, Illinois, Thomas Edward and Stella Laura (Sicinski) Martis. He married Peggy Lynn Moore on May 24, 1985, in Carbondale.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy Martis; daughters, Michelle (Tad) Anglin, and Laura Martis; grandchildren, Jack Anglin, Grace Anglin (fiancé, James Gott), Trevor Anglin, Ethan Martis, and Jillian Anglin; brother, Edward Martis; brothers-in-law, Terry Moore, Larry (Elaine) Moore, and B.J. (Rosemary) Moore; and a good friend, Jim Morris.
Ronald was preceded in death by his parents.
Ronald honorably served his country in the United States Marine Corps, serving overseas during the Vietnam War. He was employed as an accountant at the Lake of Egypt Power Plant for over 30 years.
Ronald was a faithful member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin. Ronald enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing and hunting. He had a deep appreciation for Native American heritage and was a talented craftsman, known for making arrows and his skill in flint knapping.
