Ronald James Obituary

Ronald “Ronnie” Ray James, 82, of Marion, went home to be with God, on Sunday, March 10, 2024, surrounded by his wife and daughter.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Thursday, March 14, 2024, at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home, with Pastor Roy Pepmiller and Eulogist Lester James officiating. Burial will be in Willowrest Cemetery with military rites provided by the Army National Guard Ritual Team, Carterville American Legion Post, and Herrin V.F.W. and American Legion Post. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Thursday, at the funeral home.

Ronnie was born on September 17, 1941, in Grassy Township, to Albert Jefferson and Ruby (Rushing) James. He married Jane James on July 30, 1993, in Paducah, Kentucky.

He is survived by his loving wife of over 30 years, Jane; daughter, Lisa James (Diane Skwirz); stepson, Tyler Riley (Zoe Zettle); grand-children, Levi Stevenson Riley, Mason Gage Riley, Sebastian Riley; brothers, John James, and Ernest (Mary) James; several nieces and nephews.

Ronnie was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Albert Lee Drummonds James; half-sisters, Alberta Brandon and Genevieve Manning; and half-brother, Lester James.

He honorably served our country in the United States Army for 3 years during the Vietnam era as a Cryptographer in Okinawa.

Ronnie worked at the Southern Illinoisian Newspaper as a typesetter for over 15 years and then as a Rural Mail Carrier in Goreville for over 35 years.

He enjoyed fishing and antiquing.
