Ronald Hamberg, 77, of Carbondale, passed away Saturday, May 13, 2023, at his home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 18, 2023, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Carterville, with Fr. Joseph Brown officiating. Private burial will be in St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery in Red Bud. Visitation will begin after 5:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville.

Ron was born on June 22, 1945, in Denver, Colorado, to Robert Anton and LaVerne Anne (Samp) Hamberg. He married Lorraine Frances Masterson on March 21, 1987, in Carterville.
He is survived by his wife, Lorraine Hamberg; daughter, Felicia Hamberg; grandchildren, James, Ruby, and Robert Acree; sister, Susan (Steve) Jones; cousin, LaVerne Marshall; sister-in-law, Mary Ann (Jeff) Myers; brothers-in-law, Allan (Peg) Masterson, Dennis (Becky) Masterson, and Gerald (Diane) Masterson; and several nieces, nephews, and friends.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents.
He was the production manager at WSIL TV for over 32 years.
Ron enjoyed golfing, reading, bird watching, traveling, collecting Egyptian artifacts, and listening to Classical music. He was a history afficionado with a passion for photography. Ron often referred to Devils Kitchen Lake as ‘his’ lake! In his spare time, Ron volunteered with the Friends of Crab Orchard National Wildlife Refuge.
