Ronald Gene Edwards

Ronald “Ron” Gene Edwards, 73, of Carbondale, passed away Friday, February 11, 2022, at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale.

He was born July 3, 1948, in Carbondale, to Marion C. and Mildred (Raymond) Edwards. Ron married Sheila Wilkey on February 5, 1969, in Carbondale.

Ron is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Sheila Edwards of Carbondale; children, Jay Ryan (Natalie) Edwards of Peoria and Kristin Ann Edwards (fiancé, Theo Holloway) of Carbondale; sister, JoAnn Lee-Housesour; and his beloved dog, Reagan.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Marion Edwards Jr.

Ron honorably served our country in the United States Army overseas in Germany during Vietnam.

Ron was a dedicated employee at Selmer Peerless Linen Company where he worked as a route supervisor for many years. He also worked at University Bookstore for more than 10 years in the shipping and receiving department before he retired.

Ron was also an enthusiastic baseball and softball fan of the local Leagues in Carbondale.

He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting deer, squirrel, and rabbits, as well as enjoyed boating with his family.

Ron’s greatest joy came from spending time with his family.
