Ronald “Ron” Joseph Breen, 74, of Herrin, passed away Sunday, September 25, 2022, at his home, surrounded by his family.
Services will be held at a later date.
Ron was born August 28, 1948, in Vincennes, Indiana, to Joseph D. and Olamae (Gray) Breen. He married Karen Frances Smith on January 14, 1969, in St. Francisville, Illinois.
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Karen Breen of Herrin; daughters, Michelle “Shelly” (Braden) Gibbs, and Christie (Jonathan) Mitchell; grandchildren, Chase Gibbs, Parker Gibbs, Annie Mitchell, and Grace Mitchell; seven siblings; many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Joe Dale and Olamae, and in-laws, Bill and Dorothy Smith.
He honorably served our country in the United States Army, serving two tours in Vietnam, and was awarded the Purple Heart. Ron was very proud of his country and showed his patriotism by flying the flag daily.
He began his career as a lineman with GTE, later retiring as a regional manager with Verizon, now Frontier, after 35 years.
Ron was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin.
He enjoyed caring for his yard but mostly loved cheering on his grandkids at their events.
