Roberta “Bobbie” Lee Pryer, 86, of Carterville, passed away November 23, 2020, at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale.
Private graveside will be held Saturday, November 28, 2020 at Hillcrest Cemetery in Carterville, with the Rev. Bob Morwell officiating.
Bobbie was born on March 12, 1934, in LaHarpe, Illinois, to Robert and Neoma (Ewing) Gittings. She married Bill McNeill on March 2, 1952, and he preceded her in death in 1969. She later married Robert “Bob” Pryer on February 11, 1979, in Metropolis. He preceded her in death on December 17, 2007.
She is survived by her daughter, Cynthia (John) Dunning of Carterville; daughter-in-law, Terri McNeill of Carterville; grandchildren, Jake (John Copeland) McNeill of Atlanta, Georgia, Luke (Christina) McNeill of Springfield, Johnna (Steve) Jackson of Carterville, Rachel Dunning and Taylor Dunning, both of Carterville; stepdaughters, Brenda (Keith) Kendrick of Johnston City and Colleen Allen of Delaware; great-grandchildren, Olivia, Demani and Isla of Carterville.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; son, John McNeill; and brother, Errett Gittings.
Bobbie worked as a nurse for Dr. Leland Stallings for 10 years and then at the Carbondale Clinic for 15 years before retiring. She also taught in the trauma nurse program in the early 1970’s.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Carterville, where she served as the Choir Director many years as well as cooking many meals for the church, alongside Carmen Elders.
Bobbie was also active in many organizations like the Red Hat Society; the Carterville American Legion Auxiliary; and made time to volunteer with Hospice of Southern Illinois.
Memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois, Carterville First United Methodist Church, or to P.A.W.S., and will be accepted at the funeral home.
