Robert "Cat" L. Burris

Robert “Cat” Laverne Burris, 87, of Herrin, passed away Tuesday, June 7, 2022, at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, June 17, 2022, at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville. Entombment with military rites will be in Egyptian Memorial Gardens in Energy. Visitation will be from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m., Friday, at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Herrin V.F.W. and American Legion Post.

Robert was born August 17, 1934, in Sterling, Kentucky, to Oscar and Esma (Fletcher) Burris. He married JoAnn Elder and together they had two children, Pam and Mike. Robert later married Juanita, and she preceded him in death in 1982.

He is survived by his daughter, Pam (Mike) Seats of Nashville, Illinois; son, Mike (Tara) Burris of DeSoto, Missouri; grandchildren, Gared (Jodie) Seats and Jessica Seats of Nashville, Illinois.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Juanita Burris; step-father, Truman Scarborough; sisters, Margaret Sprague and Neal Lewis; and brother, John Burrus.

He honorably served our country in the United States Army.

Robert retired in 1997, after 40 years of service as an Inspector for Norge.

He was a member of the Herrin Eagles, V.F.W. and American Legion, Masonic Lodge, and Shriner’s Temple.

Robert attended the 2^nd Baptist Church in Herrin.

He enjoyed playing pool.
