He is survived by his loving wife, Ann Barnstable of Carterville; daughter, Becky (Anthony) Dyer of Sydney, Australia; son, Matt (Sarah) Barnstable of Carterville; grandchildren, Jessie and Kate Dyer, Annabelle, Mary and Pete Barnstable; siblings, Larry (Ranae) Barnstable of Morton, Illinois, Debbie Hendrix of Clinton, Illinois, and Kim (Tracy) Barnstable of Maryland; brothers-in-law, James (Barbara) Stumpf of Trenton, Illinois, Fred Stumpf, Steve Stumpf, and Bob (Lila) Stumpf, all of Pana, Illinois; several nieces and nephews; and many dear friends.
Barney was preceded in death by his father, William Barnstable; mother, Janelda Hill; in-laws, James and Ruth Stumpf; and brother-in-law, Jim Hendrix.
He was a land surveyor with Galatia Mine for over 25 years.
Barney was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing and regularly attended “church” on Lake of Egypt. In his earlier years, Barney enjoyed hunting, camping and family float trips down the Current River. Barney was the neighborhood handy man, meals on wheels, happy hour host, lawn mower, car mechanic and always had his ear to the ground for neighborhood news. Nothing made him happier than being able to do something for someone, he was always so generous. He was the king of the BBQ, famous for his amazing potato salad and very proud to share his garden. We will never forget his hilarious “Barneyisms” that always made us laugh.
He worked very hard every day of his life to reach his goal of retirement “To do just ONE thing every day!”
He was an amazing dad and grandfather who never missed a single game, track meet or dance recital. He was an avid Carterville Booster and Cardinals fan. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. We will miss you so much Dad! Xoxo
