Rebecca Fern (Carter) Ray

Rebecca Fern Ray, 73, of Herrin, passed away Tuesday, February 4, 2020, at her home, surrounded by her family.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, February 8, 2020, at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville, with her close friend, Lee Ann Miles officiating. Burial will be in Herrin City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Saturday.

Memorial contributions can be made to the family and will be accepted at the funeral home.

Rebecca was born April 4, 1946, in St. Louis, to Samuel Ward and Lenora (Hyatt) Carter. She married David Ray and he preceded her in death in 1995.

She is survived by her sons, Tim (Kim) Ray and Samuel Ray; daughters, Christina Popham, Sharlene Smith, and Darlene Edwards; sister, Ramona Hasty; brothers, Samuel Carter, Jeff Lowrance, and Joseph Corso; grandchildren, Garrett, Ethan, Emma, and Faith Ray, Ashley Craig, Amber Luna, Kelly Miskelley, Dalen Stockenauer, Evinn Smith, Jacob Ray, Daniel Smith, Eric Smith, Christopher Edwards, and Christina Edwards; special friends, Lee Ann (Angie) Miles, Doretta Bailey, and all of Tim's friends; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and her beloved cat, Mama Kitty.

Rebecca was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

She was an animal lover, especially cats.
