Ray C. "Bugs" Smith

Ray C. "Bugs" Smith, 56, of Onarga, Illinois and formerly of Carterville, died December 1, 2020, at Carle Hospital in Champaign, Illinois. 

A memorial service will be held at a later date at, at the Garage Community Center in Gilman. 

He was born on December 27, 1963, in Marion, to Ruth Stone.  He married Lenore Hoeksema on October 14, 1999, in Watseka, Illinois.   

Bugs is survived by his wife, Lenore Smith; step daughter, Xynora Jackson; Siblings, Bernadine (Dean) Vaughn, Steve (Caroline) Smith, Jeff (Susan) Heesch; Paul (Glennda) Smith, Don (Janet) Smith, Jim (Tammy) Smith, Kenny  (Lisa) Stone, special aunt, Ruby Ottolini; several nieces and nephews.   

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Madeline Smith; mother Ruth Smith; and his grandparents, Ray and Opal Stone. 

Ray worked as a maintenance supervisor for T&D Metal in Watseka, Illinois. 

Ray was a pillar in his community working tirelessly at the Garage Community Center in Gilman and served as president since it was founded.  He was an active member of the Onarga Christian Church and served on the Onarga Library Board.
