Ray Gene Tregoning, 81, of Carterville, passed away Tuesday, July 12, 2022, at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 15, 2022, at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville, with Pastor Stacie Brown officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Willowrest Cemetery in Carterville. Visitation will begin after 6:00 p.m., Thursday, July 14, 2022, at the funeral home.
Ray was born March 21, 1941, in Carterville, to Philip G. and Mattie Elizabeth (Sullivan) Tregoning.
He is survived by his daughter, Susan Guerra of Louisiana; grandchildren, Martin (Stephanie) Tregoning, Mikala Jo Tregoning, Bryan Murray, and Nicolis Oxendine, all of Carterville, Madison, Emily, and Rowan Dicket and Olivia Guerra, all of Lousiana; great-grandchildren, Aubree and Paetyn Tregoning, and Preslie Murray; daughter-in-law, Krista Tregoning; his significant other, Brenda Dale of Herrin; and several nieces and nephews.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents; son, Joel Tregoning; and brother, Philip Tregoning.
He honorably served our country in the United States Air Force.
Ray retired in 2010, after 39 years of service from the Maintenance Department at the Williamson County Courthouse. He also owned and operated the Pin Oak in Carterville for several years.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing in his earlier years. Ray’s greatest joy came from being out on his farm and spending time with his family.
