Phyllis Short Obituary

Phyllis Jean Short, 79, of Carterville, passed away Sunday, April 26, 2020, at her home.

Private services will be held with entombment at Herrin City Cemetery.

Memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois or to Christian Covenant Fellowship Church.

Phyllis was born June 28, 1940, in Hafer, to Cecil and Maime (Jones) Hock. She married Paul Dean "P.D." Short on August 9, 1957, in Herrin. He preceded her in death on September 3, 2009.

She is survived by her daughter, Teresa Guetersloh of Carterville; sisters, Frances Donovan and Doris Barnard, both of West Frankfort; brother-in-law, Jack (Janice) Short of Herrin; sister-in-law, Deloris Jean Patrick of Marion; grandchildren, Sean Guetersloh, Katelyn Guetersloh, and Shannon Smith; great-grandchildren, Marten Guetersloh, Alexis Beers, Olivia Beers, and Douglas Abell; and her "adopted kids", Bryan Briley and Darryl Mueller, who were very special.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Linda Ellis; sister, Elizabeth "Betty" Gibbs; and brothers, Butch and Ray Hock.

She was a cook at SIU for over 20 years. Phyllis also owned and operated Lakeview Restaurant in Carterville for several years.

Phyllis enjoyed raising champion boxers with her daughter and champion beagles with her late husband, P.D.
