Paul Lewis Hodges, 92, of Cambria, passed away Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale.
He was born on April 1, 1932, in Cambria, to Otis and Alice McKinley (Rowland) Hodges. He married Dorothy “Dot” Howell and she preceded him in death in 1972. Paul later married Phyllis Jolene Loyd on August 16, 1975, in Cambria.
Paul served honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War. Following his military service, Paul dedicated 28 years to Southern Illinois University, working in Building Services until his retirement in 1994.
A man of many talents, Paul enjoyed spending time fishing, hunting, camping, and looking for treasures at yard sales. Known as a skilled handyman, he found joy in fixing and creating, always lending a helping hand.
He attended First Baptist Church in Cambria, where his faith and kindness touched many lives.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Hodges; daughter, Viva “Vi” Jolene Henley; son, Rocky Heney; grandchildren, Abby (Matthew) Blue and Scott Hodges; great-grandchildren, Grason, Cameron, and Avery Blue; sister, Sandra Hoover; plus extended family and friends.
Paul is preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Dorothy; son, Danny Hodges; sister, Iva Jean Reese; and brother, Billy Hodges.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, November 23, 2024, at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville, with Rev. Jerry Smith officiating. Burial with military rites will be at Blairsville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m., Saturday, at the funeral home.
