Patricia "Patsy" Yewell

Patricia “Patsy” Ann Yewell, 76, of Carterville, passed away Sunday, May 14, 2023, at Integrity Healthcare in Herrin.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, May 21, 2023, at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville, with Pastor Ryan Tackett officiating. Burial will be at Willowrest Cemetery in Carterville. Visitation will be from 1:30 to 2:00 p.m., Sunday.

Memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Patsy was born August 14, 1946, in Chicago, and raised by James and Esther (Wulf) Kimrey. She married Larry L. Yewell on June 1, 1969, in Marion. Together they have shared 53 wonderful years.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Larry Yewell of Carterville; son, Jeffrey Yewell of Bristol, Rhode Island; and daughter, Elizabeth Yewell of Carterville; and childhood and lifelong friend, Mildred (John) Smaardyk of Kingswood, Texas.

Patsy was preceded in death by her parents.

Patsy worked, while residing in Anna, Illinois, at the Anna State Hospital, Central Illinois Power Company, and Anna National Bank, but retired after working 22 years at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale.   

Patsy was a member of First Baptist Church in Carterville.  She was also a 50-year member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.

She enjoyed traveling, going to plays at the theatre, and dining out. Patsy liked to play cards – particularly Pinochle and Bridge. In fact, Patsy was delighted when she was finally able to beat Larry at Bridge!
