Oleta Estelle Sellers, 96, of Colp, passed away Friday, December 29, 2023, at Herrin Hospital, surrounded by her family.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., January 2, 2024, at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville, with her grandson, Tristan Tripp officiating. Burial will be in Blairsville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, at the funeral home.
Oleta was born February 10, 1927, in Dawson Springs, Kentucky, to Lucian and Tommie Alma Poole. She married Jackie L. Sellers on February 10, 1956. He preceded her in death on September 6, 2021.
Oleta is survived by her daughters, Carolyn Tuttle (Bryan Brooks) of Colp, and Jackie Jenkins of Colp; grandchildren, Lisa (A.J.) Sneed, Ricky Monteith, and Tristan Tripp; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins; and her beloved dog, “Baby”.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son-in-law, Bobby Jenkins; sisters, Loretha Singley and Ortha Mae Palmer; and brother, Orval Lantrip.
Oleta retired from the Dietary Department at Herrin Hospital after 36 years of service. Following her retirement, she then worked for her daughter, Carol, at Larry’s Pit BBQ in Carbondale.
She enjoyed eating out with family and friends, crocheting wash clothes and potholders for family, and making wooden yard art with her husband, Jack. She particularly liked to decorate the yard duck for each season. Oleta took great pride in her home. She was a phenomenal baker known for her banana nut bread-baking multiple loaves for family. Oleta and Jack adored taking trips with their dear friends, Dennis and Jeanie Jeralds.
