Nadine Shadowen, 99, of Elkville, passed away Friday, July 19, 2024, at her home, surrounded by her family.
Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Thursday, July 25, 2024, at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville. Graveside services will follow at Elkville Cemetery with Rev. Ryan Tackett officiating.
Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Humane Society of Southern Illinois.
Nadine was born February 27, 1925, in Herrin, to Ed and Ethel Mae (Arnold) Ridgway. She married Fred Joseph Shadowen Sr. on March 26, 1946, in Morganfield, Kentucky. He preceded her in death on January 2, 1998.
She is survived by her granddaughters, Francine (Jay) Helton of Cape Girardeau, Carolyn (Bobby) Gant of Elkville, and Natalie Romero of New Braunfels, Texas; great-grandchildren, Christopher Farris, Abigail Farris, Jericka Helton, Zoe Gant, and Bobby Gant Jr.; brothers, William Ridgway, John Ridgway, and Fred Ridgway; daughter-in-law, Ethel Shadowen; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Nadine was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Fred Joseph Shadowen Jr.; sisters, Opal, Ruth, Wanda, and Lola “Babe”; and brothers, Ralph, Wally, and Edward.
She, alongside her late husband, owned General Woodworking sawmill for many years. Nadine had various previous other jobs over the years including working in the bakery at IGA.
Nadine enjoyed going dancing and doing jig-saw puzzles.
