Michael “Mike” William Maurizio, 74, of Carterville Illinois, passed away Wednesday, December 14, 2022, at Herrin Hospital.
Memorial services will be held at 6 p.m., Tuesday, December 20, 2022, at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville, with Pastor Jeff Wiggs officiating. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, at the funeral home. Military rites will immediately follow.

Mike was born July 23, 1948, in Litchfield, Illinois, to William and Virginia (Pulliam) Maurizio. He married Sandy Schreiber on July 11, 1981, in Carbondale, Illinois. Together they shared 41 wonderful years. This includes a bonus of 15 months after a double lung transplant, thanks to a generous donor.
He is survived by his wife, Sandy Maurizio of Carterville; mother, Virginia Maurizio of Carterville; daughter, Tina (Craig) Calhoun of North Richland Hills, Texas; son, Paul Maurizio of Tarpon Springs, Florida; grandchildren, Zachary (Alisha) Moore, Connor Calhoun, Lilly Calhoun, Izzy Maurizio, and Avalyn Maurizio; great-grandchildren, Kinley Moore, Waylon Moore, Adalee Moore; brothers, Bob (Kay) Maurizio of Carterville, Steve (Pam) Maurizio of Carterville; father-in-law, Charles Schreiber of Rockwall, Texas; sisters-in-law, Debbie (Rick) Lindsay of Rockwall, Texas, Bonnie (Steve) Letts of Allen, Texas, and Pam (Matt) Mumper of Rockwall, Texas; plus many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Mike was preceded in death by his father, and mother-in-law, Adele Schreiber.
He honorably served our country in the United States Army during Vietnam with the B-Troop 1st Squadron, 1st Armor Cavalry Regiment. Mike was a lifetime member of the Marion VFW, member of the N.R.A., and a very strong advocate of the 2nd Amendment.
Mike served as a police officer with the City of Carbondale for over 11 years. He received his Law Degree in 1984 from Southern Illinois University Law School and initially worked with Osman & Associates prior to establishing his own law firm, Maurizio & Associates in Marion, specializing in family law for more than 30 years.
He was an active member of Cambria Christian Church.
He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed cooking, making wine, and singing.
Mike never met a stranger.
