Melvin Hebbeler Obituary

Melvin Dean Hebbeler, 77, of Herrin, passed away Monday, December 7, 2020, at 5:45 PM at John Cochran Veterans Hospital in St. Louis.

Melvin was born November 22, 1943, in St. Louis, to Alice and Louis Hebbeler. He married Kay Craver on May 25, 1974, in Marion. She preceded him in death on April 23, 2020.

Mel joined and served in the US Army. His careers included working for Nelly Don and Sears. Never one to sit still, once retired, he chose to work security at the Veterans Airport of Southern Illinois and other locations.

He enjoyed all things cars. A huge Nascar fan as well as racing, fixing and attending car shows himself. He was always the first to the dance floor with his bright blue eyes sparkling. He was a DIY man.

He is survived by his daughter, Ann (Derek) Hottle of Lenexa, Kansas; son, Kevin (Tatia) Trover of Herrin; grandsons, Tanner Hottle and Landon Trover; siblings, Doris Lingle of Goreville and Bill (Middy) Hebbeler of Zeigler, IL; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Sandy (Larry) Addison of Carbondale; many nieces and nephews; and several lifetime friends including Barbara Madigan and Beverly Johnson.

Mel was preceded in death by his wife, Kay Hebbeler; parents, Alice Hebbeler- Marshall and Louis Hebbeler; brother, Don Hebbeler; and sister, Shirley Hebbeler.

A celebration of Melvin’s life, hosted by his family will be held from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m., Saturday, May 29, 2021, at the Moose Lodge in West Frankfort.  Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Sunday, May 30, 2021, at North Oakwood Cemetery in Carterville with Larry Addison officiating. Military honors will be performed by the Carterville American Legion Post, Herrin V.F.W. and American Legion Post, and the Army National Guard Ritual Team.
