Maurelle (Littlefield) Hooks

Maurelle Hooks, 89, of Carterville, passed away Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale, surrounded by her family. 

Per her wishes, she was cremated, and private family services were held. 

She was born on September 18, 1935, in Princeton, Kentucky, to Herbert and Audrey Louise (Merrick) Littlefield. Maurelle married LeRoy Hooks on June 4, 1954, in Princeton, Kentucky. He preceded her in death on December 14, 2010.

Maurelle is survived by her sons, Michael Hooks, David (Tammy) Hooks, and Kirk Hooks; daughter, Laura (Gary) Turner; grandchildren, Melissa Ward, Jason Turner, Audrey Hooks, Hannah Hooks, Ashley Vaughn, and Lindsey Sechler; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and sisters, June Eli and Carnel Crowe. 

Maurelle had been a hospital administrator at KSB in Dixon for many years. 

She was a member of Murdale Baptist Church. A nature enthusiast, Maurelle enjoyed bird watching and growing flowers. 

Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville is in charge of cremation services.
