Marilyn Sue Riggin Hadfield, 85, of Niceville, Florida, and formerly of Herrin, passed away Wednesday, February 1, 2023, in Baptist Hospital in Pensacola, Florida.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, February 6, 2023, at Oakwood Cemetery in Carterville, with Pastor Mark Goldman officiating.

Marilyn was born March 20, 1937, in Carterville, to Gordon and Lucille Riggin. She married Larry Hadfield on June 12, 1960, in Carterville.
She is survived by her husband, Larry Hadfield of Niceville, Florida; her daughters and sons-in-law, Laurie Hadfield and Alfonso Amaya Anchietta, of Destin Florida, and Sharon and Ted Connelly of Lafayette, Louisiana; her grandchildren, Summer Hamilton and Jake Connelly of Lafayette, Louisiana.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother, Jim Riggin.
She lived in Herrin for 40 years. She was a graduate of Carterville High School and later graduated with a bachelor’s in education from Southern Illinois University. She also belonged to Alpha Gamma Delta sorority, as well as the Angel Flight Choir, both while at SIU.
She taught kindergarten for 3 years in Springfield, Illinois. She then taught second grade for 30 years at Westside School in Herrin, Illinois, before retiring with her husband to Niceville, Florida.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Herrin, Illinois.
She was an active member with the Beta Sigma Phi sorority and Herrin Women’s Club. She actively attended Village Baptist Church in Destin, Florida, upon retirement. In Niceville, she loved to play Bridge, and she belonged to several bridge groups and would play a few times during the week. You could also find her in the kitchen baking her favorite recipes for her family or fellow bridge goers.
Marilyn was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She sincerely cared about people and was always ready to lend a helping hand.
The family wishes to express she will be dearly missed by her family and those she touched with her kindness. We know she is in Heaven with God and is reunited with her loved ones.
