Margaret Ann (Hunt) Childers

Margaret Ann (Hunt) Childers, 70, of Carterville, Illinois, entered into Heaven to live eternally with her precious Savior, Jesus, on Friday, October 20, 2023. 

Margaret was born January 11, 1953, in Herrin, Illinois, to Elizabeth Ann (Rogers) and Virgil Paul Hunt. She graduated from Herrin High School (1971), and Southern Illinois University, Carbondale (1975). Margaret married Bruce Edward Childers on May 8, 1976. She was employed by Williamson County Special Education District as a special education teacher and later, as an IEP Facilitator.

Margaret was a member of Carterville First Baptist Church, where she served on the Kitchen Committee, worked in VBS and sang in the choir. She was devoted to her family and loved providing childcare for her three grandchildren. Margaret especially enjoyed her monthly lunches with her special “Lunch Bunch” friends. 

Margaret is survived by her husband, Bruce, of Carterville; her daughter and son-in-law, Mallory and Andrew Martin; grandchildren, Josie, Cavitt and Camden Martin, all of Carterville; mother, Elizabeth Hunt of Waltonville; sister and brother-in-law, Donna and Steve Norris of Waltonville; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Cindy and Gary Marks of Marion; mother-in-law, Audrey Childers of Marion; very special family friends, Steve and Margie Martin of Carterville and Sam and Haley Martin, of Charlotte, North Carolina; nieces, nephews, and their families, Ashley, Travis, Jace, and Jaxe Paddock of Olney; Lindsay, Chris, Alivia, and Toby Harvey of Mt. Vernon; Wesley and Trisha Norris of Pekin; Megan and Andy Tate of Herrin; and Courtney Marks of Marion; aunt, June Barnes of Tustin, California; cousins, David and Sherry Barnes and family of Long Beach, California; Greg and Rachel Barnes and family of Dallas, Texas.

Margaret was preceded in death by her father, Virgil Hunt. 

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 3, 2023, at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville, with Pastor Ryan Tackett officiating. Interment will be at Herrin City Cemetery. Visitation will begin after 5:00 p.m., Thursday, November 2, 2023, at the funeral home. 

Memorials may be made in Margaret’s honor to Carterville First Baptist Church, Hospice of Southern Illinois, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
