Lynn Cox Obituary

Lynn Ray Cox, 71, of Marion, passed away Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at the CLC of the Marion VA, surrounded by his family.

Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, March 30, 2024, at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville, with his son, Charlie Cox officiating. Burial with military rites will be at Hillcrest Cemetery in Carterville. Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Saturday, at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions can be made to Marion VA CLC Chaplain Services.

Lynn was born April 10, 1952, in Herrin, to Johnny W. and Charlotte L. (Walker) Cox. He married Brenda Sue Downen on June 28, 1972, in Franklin, Tennessee.

He is survived by his wife, Brenda Cox; son, Charlie Cox; granddaughter, Lory Cox; and brothers, Terry (Nancy) Cox, and Ron (Reva) Cox; and several nieces and nephews.

Lynn was preceded in death by his parents.

He honorably served our country in the United States Army overseas during Vietnam.

Lynn worked at Inland Steel & Consolidated Coal in Sesser for over 20 years. He later was a clerk for the VA Medical Center in Marion-he worked the switchboard and in the file room.

He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting. Lynn also liked woodworking or could be found tinkering in the shop.
